  • Make A Plan:  Create a family emergency plan and discuss it with your family.
  • Build An Emergency Kit:  Gather essential supplies and create a checklist for your emergency kit.

Things to include in an emergency kit are:

Food:  A 3 day supply of non-perishable food items such as canned goods, granola bars and dried fruit.

Flashlight:  A reliable flashlight with extra batteries to provide light during power outages.

First Aide Kit:  Include bandages, antiseptic wipes, pain relievers, and any necessary prescription medications.

Multi Tool or Swiss Army Knife:  Useful for various tasks and emergencies.

Whistle:  To signal for help.

Dust Mask:  To help filter contaminated air and plastic sheeting and duct tape to create a shelter if necessary.

Moist Towelettes, Garbage Bags, and Plastic Ties:  For personal sanitation.

Manual Can Opener:  For food if kit contains canned goods.

Local Maps:  To help navigate if GPS is unavailable.

Portable Phone Charger:  To keep communication devices powered.

Important Documents:  Copies of personal documents (insurance, identification) in a waterproof container.

Clothing and Blankets:  Extra clothing, sturdy shoes and blankets for warmth.
