The Marshall County Health Department issues permits and regularly inspects a variety of establishments to ensure that they meet sanitary standards. The West Virginia Department of Health categorizes these establishments into the following programs:
- Food (restaurants, cafeterias, retail food, convenience stores, food stalls, and any other establishment that sells food and/or beverages to the public)
- Child Care Centers (including family day care centers)
- Manufactured Home Communities
- Recreational Water (outdoor/indoor pools, therapy pools, splash pads, etc.)
- Tattoo Studios
- Body Piercing
- General Sanitation (hotels/motels, schools, parks and playgrounds, RV campgrounds, fairs and festivals, etc.)
